Interested in a license to become a Texas Mold Assessment Technician, Mold Assessment Consultant, Mold Remediation Contractor or Mold Worker?

Mold assessment and remediation in Texas are regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) under the Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1958 – Mold Assessors and Remediators, and the Texas Administrative Code, Title 16, Chapter 78 – Mold Assessors and Remediators Administrative Rules.

These laws and rules establish licensing requirements, minimum performance standards, documentation procedures, and penalties designed to protect property owners and professionalize the mold industry.

In Texas, unless specifically exempt under the statute:

  • All individuals and companies performing mold assessment or mold remediation must be licensed or registered with TDLR.
  • This includes mold assessment consultants, mold assessment technicians, mold remediation contractors, mold remediation companies, mold remediation workers (registered), and licensed laboratories performing mold analysis.

Key Roles Defined:

  • Mold Assessors – Licensed professionals who inspect, test, analyze, and prepare remediation protocols.
  • Mold Remediators – Licensed contractors and workers who correct mold problems and perform remediation activities.

To perform either role legally in Texas, a current TDLR license or registration is required.
